🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On March 31, 2012, a witness in the Nord region of France observed several non-flashing orange lights moving silently from north to south. The objects gradually disappeared from view. Another witness saw part of the phenomenon but did not report it. The characteristics matched those of traditional Thai lanterns, which are often released during celebrations. The day was a Saturday, a common time for such events. Although the wind from the northeast (17 to 39 km/h) supported the theory, the GEIPAN did not investigate who launched the lanterns. The case was classified as "B," meaning it is likely caused by flying lanterns.
