On April 15, 2012, near midnight, a witness in Rixheim (France) observed an orange glowing sphere moving silently. The object descended toward the east and then turned south. Later, a second similar phenomenon appeared and seemed to join the first, both moving together in the same direction. Over time, both objects dimmed and extinguished simultaneously. The witness, a commercial pilot, described them as light and carried by the wind. Although the wind measured on the ground was 15 km/h, it was considered possible that at higher altitudes, local topography could have caused more complex air currents. The orange color and the disappearance in flight are typical of Thai lanterns, especially on a weekend night. However, the perception of "flames" in the objects is unusual, as lanterns usually extinguish quickly. This could be due to light variability or unstable atmospheric conditions. Despite this, the report concludes that the observation likely involved Thai lanterns, with the flame description being subjective.
