On August 8, 2012, a witness in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region observed a mysterious object in the sky while lying on a terrace. He noticed a brown-green object with diffuse edges, described as resembling a "tisserand shuttle," moving in a straight line for five seconds. A dark red circular shape was visible at its center. Though blurry, the object was clearly distinguishable against the starry background. No sound was heard during its northeast to southwest trajectory. The object moved with its long axis perpendicular to the direction of motion. Despite only one witness, the detailed description and the object's inability to be identified as a known phenomenon led to its classification as D1, meaning an unidentified phenomenon. The observation stands out for its precision and the unusual appearance of the object, which does not match anything known.
