🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On August 4, 2012, at 11 p.m., a witness in Archamps (France) observed five orange oval-shaped objects moving slowly and silently across the sky. These objects gathered before beginning a slow ascent, gradually disappearing from view as their brightness faded. The GEIPAN, the French organization responsible for investigating unidentified aerial phenomena, concluded that these were likely sky lanterns. This type of object is commonly launched during summer evenings, especially on Saturdays, for local celebrations or weddings. Due to complex mountain weather conditions, the observed movement did not exactly match the meteorological data recorded in Geneva. Although the GEIPAN did not conduct a local investigation to identify the individuals responsible for the launch, the witness was not convinced by this explanation. The case was classified as "B," meaning likely explained.
