Summary

On August 23, 2012, a witness in Lyon noticed a bright point in the sky moving slowly without making any noise. The yellow light caught their attention due to its unusual behavior. After disappearing behind the urban landscape, the GEIPAN investigated the case. Through conversations with the witness, the direction of the observation was precisely determined. It turned out to match exactly the passage of the International Space Station (ISS) over the southwest horizon. Records from Calsky confirmed the ISS was visible with a magnitude of -1.6 at that time. The case was classified as "A", meaning it was explained as an observation of the ISS.
