UFO in Alpes-Maritimes seen as moving lights

Summary

A young couple in Alpes-Maritimes observed moving lights on August 5, 2012. While returning home on the D2564, they saw between 5 and 6 luminous shapes moving silently toward the west. The lights blinked rapidly and had changing colors. The phenomenon lasted less than a minute and was soon hidden by a hill. The only witness was unaware of the existence of luminous balloons, which contributed to the strange perception. The GEIPAN investigation concluded that these were LED-lit balloons filled with helium, moving with the wind. The location, an area with few roads and low traffic, was suitable for a "balloon party." The summer weather and weekend also favored such events. Although the person who released the balloons was not identified, the case was classified as probably identified.
