🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On September 11, 2012, between midnight and 2 a.m., two people aboard a sailboat approaching the port of Île-d'Yeu observed three aligned red lights slightly tilted above the ocean. These lights remained stationary for several minutes without making any noise before suddenly disappearing. The witnesses continued their maneuvers to dock. Initially, the phenomenon was thought to be typical Thai lanterns, but several factors contradict this explanation. For example, such lanterns are usually released on Saturday nights, not Tuesdays, and their simultaneous extinction is highly unusual. Additionally, the light southeast wind might have caused a slight movement to the right of the witnesses, but they themselves were in motion. Due to lack of information and corroboration, the GEIPAN classified the case as "C".
