Luminous Ball and Power Outage in La Réunion

On October 1, 2012, several witnesses in La Réunion observed a luminous ball with a white trail descending toward the ocean. Shortly after, a general power outage occurred, which caused some concern among the witnesses. Only one direct testimony was collected, though the observation characteristics matched those of a fireball. The witness linked the event with the power outage, but this turned out to be a coincidence. In the island, power cuts are common and, in fact, EDF had announced them beforehand. Although the fireball could not be confirmed in the records, this remains the most likely explanation.
