Summary

On November 2, 2012, three observers noticed two red balls of light appearing five minutes apart. These moved slowly toward the sea and disappeared while ascending. Although the witness did not confirm the cause, the GEIPAN considered it likely to be Thai lanterns. These lights move silently and at low altitude, following the wind. On this weekend night, the weather showed a light northwest wind, matching the observed behavior. Additionally, the blurry appearance above the lights could be explained by vapor emitted from the heat or smoke from the burner.
