In November 2012, a witness in Montivilliers observed a fixed light in the overcast sky. Initially thought to be stationary, the light was soon seen moving slowly toward Fontenay. The witness's mother also saw the light but didn't notice any blinking lights. The light disappeared behind rooftops. The gendarmerie conducted an in-depth investigation, consulting air traffic control, local police, and the airport. Although no radar traces were found, it was proposed that the light came from an airplane approaching Le Havre. Exceptional weather conditions allowed for high visibility, which might explain the confusion. The light could have been the landing light of an airplane seen head-on, with its side lights not visible from that distance.
