Orange light over Perpignan in 2012

Summary

On December 12, 2012, at 19:20 UTC, a pilot and an air traffic controller noticed a bright yellow-orange light in the sky. The light was so striking that a photo was taken from the airplane. A ground observer in Esprí de l'Agly (66) also reported the phenomenon. After investigation, it was found that a nearby military base had conducted training with flares on the previous two evenings. Despite this explanation, the case was classified as "A" by the GEIPAN, indicating that other possibilities cannot be ruled out.
