🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On December 24, 2012, a family in Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx observed a formation of 6 to 8 glowing points moving silently in the sky for five minutes. The objects, red and orange-yellow in color, appeared one after another at the same frequency and seemed to follow each other at equal distances. All had an upward trajectory, and some disappeared suddenly. One witness recorded a video, adding credibility to the account.
The description of the witnesses matched that of Thai lanterns. These lights, typical of festive events, rise into the air and extinguish as their fuel burns out. Additionally, the wind recorded in the area that day explained the direction of the movements. Although two of the lights seemed to move in another direction, these observations were not confirmed with precision. Finally, the festive date and the nature of the objects led the GEIPAN to classify the case as B: Thai lanterns.
