🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On May 7, 2013, several witnesses in Paris observed red and orange luminous points in the sky, moving in pairs without trails. The objects moved from southwest to northeast near the Montparnasse Tower. Although the witnesses did not specify an exact time, they mentioned it was during an aperitif or dinner. Weather conditions showed variable winds, but mainly from the southwest, matching the movement of the objects.
The GEIPAN classified this case as "B", meaning a likely observation of natural or known phenomena. In this case, sky lanterns were the most plausible explanation. These luminous balloons are common during festivals, though their release in urban areas is strongly discouraged for safety reasons. Despite this, their use persists, especially on festive nights.
