On June 16, 2013, a witness in Paris observed unusual blue and pink lights in the sky, but only when looking through his sunglasses. He immediately took a photo capturing the phenomenon. Although the witness saw nothing unusual with the naked eye, through the sunglasses he noticed iridescent reflections that did not seem to be related to typical clouds. An expert from Météo-France noted that iridescent clouds are usually associated with high cirrus clouds, which was not the case here. The GEIPAN concluded that the phenomenon was optical, likely caused by sunlight reflecting off the sunglasses and the camera lens.
