In June 2013, a witness in Lyon observed a formation of luminous points moving in a straight line. He saw three orange points forming a triangle, followed by another larger triangle and finally a single point. No unusual sounds were heard during the several-minute observation. The witness filmed the phenomenon, which was covered in local news. Although the witness reported a west-to-east movement, analysis showed the objects came from the north, matching the wind direction recorded in the area. The possibility of flying lanterns, often launched during celebrations, was considered. The characteristics of the objects and their stable triangular formation are consistent with such devices. However, the GEIPAN did not investigate further, classifying the case as "B", meaning likely a natural or known phenomenon.
