UFO Case in the Hautes-Pyrénées in 2013

Summary

In July 2013, a witness in the Hautes-Pyrénées observed a luminous sphere silently moving over a nearby mountain at dawn. The object appeared suddenly and remained visible for a while before disappearing. Intrigued by the phenomenon, the witness contacted experts for more information. After an astronomical review and several email exchanges, it was concluded that the observed object was nothing more than the Moon at its setting. This type of misidentification is common, especially when there is some cloud cover and the light from the celestial body filters in an unusual way. The GEIPAN classified the case as "A," indicating it was an observation of the full Moon at its sunset.
