🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On July 27, 2013, two people in Rehon (France) observed an orange glowing point moving silently and in a straight line across the sky for a few minutes. The object disappeared on the horizon, and no other witnesses were reported in the area. Although the report was detailed, GEIPAN classified the case as "B," meaning it is likely a Thai lantern. The description matches the behavior of these lights, although the launch and local wind conditions were not confirmed.
Thai lanterns are often released in large numbers during celebrations, and there was a wedding in Rehon that day. However, no mass launch was reported. The speed and direction of the lanterns can vary depending on the wind, which that day was shifting between south and southwest. Despite this, the weather data could not be conclusively linked to the observed movement. The apparent brightness and size of the object did not clearly match a typical lantern, but the possibility was not ruled out.
