Summary

In April 2016, a witness in Ploüescat (France) observed a luminous phenomenon that changed color between blue and red. The object made no noise and was visible from 10:10 PM to 10:45 PM. The witness took two photos, but no other testimonies were collected. Investigators from the GEIPAN concluded that the phenomenon was actually the star Sirius, whose color can appear to change under certain atmospheric conditions. The trajectory and behavior described matched what would be expected from Sirius, ruling out other explanations such as a lantern.

A geometric reconstruction based on the photos and the witness's location confirmed that the observed object was only 1-2 degrees away from Sirius. Additionally, the wind on that day was not strong enough to explain the movement if it had been a terrestrial object. Therefore, the case was classified as "A," indicating a clear identification. Although the phenomenon seemed otherworldly, it turned out to be an optical illusion caused by the star's position and atmospheric conditions.
