On August 1, 2013, at 12:40 AM, two people in Metz (France) observed an orange, flickering ball above a tree. The light quickly ascended into the sky, moved continuously from west to east, and then disappeared behind a nearby building. No unusual sounds were heard, adding to the mystery. Only one witness account was collected, and the observer described the object as a typical Thai lantern, common in summer nights in the city. However, the wind was coming from the north, perpendicular to the observed path, which complicated this explanation. Given the very light wind (1 to 4 km/h), it could have been a local breeze blowing in a different direction. Without precise local meteorological data, the case was classified as "C" due to insufficient information.
