On the night of August 5, 2013, a witness in Metz observed five yellowish lights moving rapidly across a stormy sky. The lights seemed to flicker and moved eastward, despite the wind coming from the northwest. A moment later, another light appeared and followed the same path. The testimony is detailed and precise, yet investigators concluded it could be Thai lanterns, common during summer nights. The proximity of the Moselle River and a nearby hill might have altered the apparent wind direction, explaining the unusual movement of the lights.
