🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On August 16, 2013, three people in La Gaude (Alpes-Maritimes) observed a grey-metallic object silently flying through the sky. Only one of them provided a detailed testimony. According to the witness, the object was moving from left to right, that is, from south to north, and was slowly ascending. The observation lasted about 4 minutes. The direction of movement coincided with a southern wind blowing at around 18 km/h. If the object was carried by the wind, it would have traveled more than a kilometer. Considering the geometry of the photograph and assuming a 2-meter solar balloon, the object would be about 700 meters away. It could also be a larger balloon at 1.4 km. The GEIPAN could not determine its origin, as no notable events were recorded in the area. It is considered to possibly be an experimental object made by an enthusiast or even a festive balloon, perhaps shaped like the number "1". The case was classified as "B", indicating a probable observation of an unknown origin balloon.
