On August 17, 2013, two people in Pontarlier, France, noticed a very bright light moving silently in a straight line across the sky. The phenomenon caught their attention due to its unusual behavior. After investigation, it was confirmed that the light corresponded to the International Space Station (ISS), whose passage over the area had been predicted by the website Calsky.com. The witness estimated the time to be around 23:15, which matches the recorded ISS passage. The GEIPAN classified this case as "A," meaning a verified observation of the ISS. Although it might initially seem like an unidentified object, this case highlights how tools such as space visibility maps help clarify many sightings.
