Summary

On July 20, 2013, a witness in Haut-Rhin observed a series of bright red balls silently moving across the sky around 1:30 AM. Intrigued by the phenomenon, the witness took photographs. The balls moved in a line, a formation typical of Thai sky lanterns. Although the witness was initially unaware of this type of object, after some research, they concluded it could be exactly that. The local wind, weak and variable, made it difficult to confirm the movement of the balls, but it didn't rule out the possibility of them being lanterns.

The GEIPAN classified this case as "B," indicating a probable observation of Thai sky lanterns. Despite the meteorological uncertainty, the testimony and images are consistent with this type of object. This case illustrates how unidentified objects can have simple, although surprising, explanations when thoroughly investigated.
