🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On September 24, 2013, two people in Mons, Hérault, observed a rapidly moving luminous phenomenon in the sky between 10 PM and 11 PM. The witness reported no unusual noise and the observations lasted over an hour. Despite the detailed description and confirmation by gendarmes, the GEIPAN concluded it was likely a light beam from the ground. Although there are no nightclubs in the observed direction, gendarmes noted that sparsely populated mountainous areas often host informal parties. The photo taken by the witness showed a bright circle, but it was identified as an "orbe" caused by the phone's flash reflecting off a dust particle near the lens. The GEIPAN classified the case as "B," indicating a probable luminous phenomenon. However, no exhaustive search for the projector's source was conducted due to the temporary and often clandestine nature of such installations.
