🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On November 10, 2013, a witness in Sceaux (France) observed an intense light for 10 minutes. While photographing the park, they noticed a white and then red streak that they couldn't explain. The light appeared near the horizon at sunset, a time ideal for optical phenomena like sun dogs. This effect occurs when sunlight refracts through ice clouds at high altitudes. On that day, the sky was filled with cirrus clouds and the weather was cold and dry, conditions favorable for this phenomenon. Additionally, heavy air traffic could have contributed, as aircraft contrails can also cause sun dogs. The GEIPAN classified the case as "A", attributing it to a sun dog. The green spots in the photos are due to internal reflections in the camera lens.
