Summary

In Maincy, France, a driver reported in 2013 the observation of three orange lights arranged in a triangle above a small forest. The witness described a "dark mass" between the lights, which was interpreted as a common optical illusion. The lights turned off one by one, and the object "diminished" according to the witness. Although another driver was also a witness, only one testimony was collected. The GEIPAN investigated whether these were Thai lanterns, common in certain celebrations, but found no recorded events in the area. The lights were above a private park, but the light easterly wind suggested the lanterns originated from the east. Despite not identifying the responsible party, the report concludes it was likely lanterns, although the witness did not accept this explanation.
