🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On January 1, 2014, a witness in Bas-Rhin observed 23 red glowing points moving silently in a straight line across a cloudy sky from their balcony. Although the witness denied the possibility of flying lanterns, the GEIPAN classified the case as "B," suggesting they were likely Thai lanterns launched to celebrate the New Year. Weather conditions indicated a light southerly wind, which would be consistent with such objects. The low unusual nature of the observation on that date and time did not justify a field investigation.
