On February 2, 2014, two people in Douai, France, observed unusual aerial lights. They saw several orange lights slowly and silently moving across the sky, following the wind direction. Although only one witness reported the event, the characteristics —color, movement, and speed— matched those of traditional Thai lanterns. However, the witness denied this explanation. The GEIPAN, after reviewing weather data and the compatibility with this common phenomenon, classified the case as "B", meaning a probable observation of flying lanterns. Interestingly, the date coincides with the Feast of the Candles, a tradition involving candles and fire, adding a symbolic touch to the event.
