Summary

On March 9, 2014, a witness in Saint-Remy-les-Chevreuse (Yvelines) observed for a few seconds a faintly luminous phenomenon followed by a long, white trail in the sky. The description of a luminous ball that crossed the sky in a straight line within 2 to 3 seconds fits the characteristics of a fireball. Although the phenomenon was not recorded by the amateur automatic camera network BOAM, two other fireballs were recorded the same night in eastern France. An additional testimony received by the GEIPAN from Saint-André-de-Cubzac, near Bordeaux, could be related, although the reported observation times do not exactly match. Without further confirmation, the case was classified as "B", meaning a likely observation of a fireball.

Such events are common in February and March, months when similar phenomena are frequently recorded. Although not always captured by automatic equipment, visual testimonies are valuable to researchers. In this case, the lack of exact time coincidence and the absence of images prevent a definitive confirmation, but the described characteristics are consistent with a luminous meteor entering Earth's atmosphere.
