Summary

In December 1953, a pilot and his mechanic in Sweden reported a mysterious object while flying over the Skåne region. Captain Ulf Christiernsson and Olle Johansson observed a metallic, circular object moving at a speed close to that of sound. The object, estimated to be about 10 meters in diameter, appeared suddenly and disappeared quickly, leaving no trail. The witnesses, experienced in flight, insisted it was not a meteorite or celestial phenomenon. Their testimony generated significant interest and multiple theories, including the possibility of it being a publicity balloon or a daylight meteorite.

The Swedish defense and astronomy experts attempted to explain the phenomenon. It was suggested it could be a meteorite from the Geminids meteor shower, which occurs in December. However, the possibility of a weather or publicity balloon was also considered. Despite investigations, no definitive conclusion was reached. The pilot's testimony, supported by his experience, was taken seriously, though also questioned. The controversy persisted, and the case became one of the most detailed and discussed of the time.
