On June 12, 2014, a witness in Angers, France, captured images of two bright aerial phenomena. The photos initially suggested aircraft contrails, and analysis showed that the sun was still visible, just 3 degrees below the horizon. This explained the intense brightness of the contrails, illuminated by the setting sun. The direction of the objects toward the northwest, aligned with the sun, made the contrails appear vertical due to the observer's perspective. Although military aircraft were considered, no conclusive data was available.
The GEIPAN classified the case as "B," indicating likely aircraft contrails. Despite the unusual appearance of the images, there was no way to confirm if they were from commercial or military aircraft. The lack of official information prevented a definitive conclusion. Nonetheless, the case remains intriguing due to the clarity of the photographs and the alignment with the sun's position. Such observations help researchers better understand rare aerial phenomena.
