Summary

On the night of July 19, 2014, two observers moving in a vehicle noticed two yellow-orange glowing spheres in the sky between Toulouse and Montauban. The phenomenon lasted a few minutes and was reported around 22:45. Although initially intriguing due to its unusual appearance, the GEIPAN concluded it was likely a case of flying lanterns, a common practice after private celebrations. The slow movement observed was consistent with the light southerly wind recorded in the Montauban area. Additionally, a similar observation was reported at the same time in Bruguières, suggesting a possible shared origin.

Flying lanterns, while not common in the region, are a plausible explanation for such events. Their slow, smooth movement can easily be mistaken for unidentified objects if the cultural or social context is unknown. By classifying this case as "B", the GEIPAN indicates that there are no elements suggesting an anomalous or unexplained nature. This kind of analysis helps distinguish between natural or known phenomena and truly unexplained cases, contributing to a better understanding of UFO reports.
