🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
A witness in France observed several luminous phenomena between July 9 and 11, 2014. The first observation, on July 9 at 23:54, described a luminous sphere crossing the sky in under a minute. Two gendarmes also reported a similar phenomenon, which split into two parts before disappearing. The GEIPAN considers it possibly a bolide, meaning the entry of a meteoroid into the atmosphere. Although no similar events were recorded in specific databases, the possibility of a space debris entry is not ruled out.
Subsequent observations included luminous points resembling high-altitude aircraft and satellite flares, such as those from Iridium or Echostar 16. Some descriptions matched known satellites or aircraft, while others could not be confirmed. The GEIPAN concludes that most of the observed events are explained by common phenomena such as meteors, aircraft, or satellites. The case is classified as "B," indicating that the observations are likely of natural or artificial objects.
