Summary

In July 2014, a group of witnesses in Essonne observed between 5 and 7 red lights silently flying over a forest before ascending. The objects made a loop and disappeared after a few minutes. Although it might initially seem unusual, the GEIPAN classified the case as "B", indicating a likely conventional explanation. Investigators concluded it was probably Chinese lanterns, given the time of day, wind direction, and typical behavior of such objects. The lights ascended toward the south, following the north wind, and likely crossed the Seine, explaining the observed turbulence.
