In July 2014, a witness in Gleize (Rhône) observed around 22:35 a group of about twenty luminous points silently crossing the sky in just a few minutes. This phenomenon, which occurred on a weekend night, was interpreted by the GEIPAN as a probable observation of sky lanterns. Although the witness did not mention a specific celebration, the description of the movement and the number of lights align with typical sky lantern behavior. However, weather data is conflicting: while a southeast wind was recorded in Lyon-Bron, a very weak north wind was noted in Macon. Given that Gleize is located between these two weather stations, it is difficult to confirm the wind direction at the time of the event. Despite this, the GEIPAN classifies the case as "B", indicating a high probability that the phenomenon was caused by sky lanterns released after a private event.
