Summary

On October 31, 2017, an observer in Maine-et-Loire spotted a bright white light with blue and red flashes in the sky. After failing to find a match using the SkyView app, he noticed the object moving in short, irregular bursts. Despite attempts to photograph it, the light was hard to capture. After 30 minutes, the object had shifted vertically, maintaining its brightness.

The investigation revealed the object was actually the star Sirius, the brightest in the night sky. Its initial and final positions matched Stellarium's predictions, and the flashes were due to atmospheric turbulence. The apparent movements were explained by known optical phenomena. Ultimately, the case was classified as "certain observation of Sirius".
