On November 26, 2009, around 10:45 PM, two people in Villefranche-sur-Mer observed a dozen square-shaped objects with a central white light. The phenomenon was silent and lasted about one and a half minutes. Although the testimony was collected in 2014, researchers considered the possibility of these being Thai lanterns. Often launched during private celebrations, these can appear square or barrel-shaped depending on the observer's perspective. Additionally, the movement from west to east matched the recorded northwest wind in the area. Despite the unusual description, the GEIPAN classified the case as "B", indicating a likely explanation involving terrestrial objects.
