Carentan 2012, observation of Arcturus

Summary

A witness in Carentan, France, reported a UFO sighting on July 28, 2012. From his window, he observed a luminous point that changed colors between red, yellow, and green. The object remained stationary, and after a few seconds, the witness took photos showing three points forming a triangle. The phenomenon disappeared and reappeared with four points, but it lasted only a few minutes. No other witnesses were recorded. Upon analyzing the images, it was determined that the observed object was the star Arcturus. The changes in appearance were explained by atmospheric conditions, such as clouds and the instability of the handheld camera. The GEIPAN classified the case as "A", meaning a normal astronomical phenomenon.
