🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
An UFO case occurred on August 31, 2012, in the Eure-et-Loir region of France. A passenger in a car traveling from Chartres to Caen observed a very bright yellow phenomenon near the horizon. The witness, intrigued by the unexplainable sight, took a photograph. Although only one questionnaire was collected, the driver also confirmed seeing the phenomenon. The exact location was not specified, but GEIPAN investigators analyzed key elements: the appearance, color, the low sun position, the presence of clouds, and a typical trail of a sun dog. They concluded that the observed phenomenon was a sun dog, an atmospheric optical effect caused by the refraction of sunlight through ice crystals. The case was classified as "A," indicating a certain observation of a sun dog.
