Summary

A witness reported in February 2015 an observation from a few months earlier. On December 24, 2013, at 8:30 PM, he observed at least five orange glowing spheres moving slowly and silently across the sky. Although the lights appeared to cross the sky in a few minutes, the festive atmosphere of Christmas and the location suggest they could be Thai lanterns released nearby. Moreover, the movement toward the southeast aligns with a southwest wind recorded in the area, although in mountainous regions it is hard to accurately predict low-altitude air currents. The witness claimed to be looking south, but Mont Blanc is in the southeast, indicating a possible inaccuracy of up to 45 degrees. The GEIPAN classified the case as "B," meaning it is likely an observation of Thai lanterns.
