Summary

On April 1, 2017, at 22:30, a witness and two other people observed a very bright point in the night sky at low altitude. The object appeared to blink in different colors, which intrigued the witness. Although only one testimony was collected, the observer compared it to a star, noting it was larger and brighter. That night, Jupiter was visible in the indicated area of the sky and its intense brightness (-2.45 magnitude) could have been mistaken for the observed object. The low elevation of the planet and the presence of fog or clouds explain the color variations and the disappearance of the phenomenon. Many similar testimonies in GEIPAN result from this confusion, as noted on the organization's website.

The case was classified as type A, meaning it was attributed to a conventional explanation. The lack of additional testimonies from the other two people suggests they did not share the perception of the unusual. This is common when the phenomenon does not generate the same impact on all observers. Despite the detailed description, there were no elements suggesting a non-identified nature. The A classification reflects the conclusion that the observed phenomenon was simply the planet Jupiter, affected by normal atmospheric conditions.
