In March 2014, a witness in Marseille observed three orange-yellow points of light moving silently in a straight line before suddenly accelerating and disappearing. Although it might initially seem unexplained, the GEIPAN investigators concluded these were likely Thai lanterns released after a private party. The lights traveled east to west, matching the wind direction recorded in the area. The perceived acceleration and disappearance were likely due to the rapid dimming as the lanterns' burners went out. The case was classified as "B," indicating a probable explanation.
