A group of witnesses in Oullins, France, reported around 11 PM the presence of a dozen red objects in the sky. These objects, described as red or orange balls, were moving silently for a few minutes. Although it might initially seem like an unexplained phenomenon, GEIPAN investigators concluded that these were likely Thai lanterns released after a celebration. The weather report from Lyon Bron indicated very weak and unstable winds, making it hard to determine the exact wind direction. However, the slow movement of the objects matched the weather conditions. In the end, the case was classified as "B", meaning a likely observation of known or natural phenomena.
