On August 30, 2014, at around 11:40 PM, several people in the French region of Haute-Savoie observed about 70 bright, flickering objects moving silently across the night sky. All of them followed the same direction, disappearing at the zenith. Only one testimony was collected, and the witness tried to photograph the event with their phone without success. The description resembled a group of stars traveling together, with a coherent trajectory heading north. It is speculated that the objects followed the wind pattern typical of mountainous areas. The GEIPAN classified the case as "B," indicating the observation of festive lights, likely Thai lanterns.
The descriptions match the flickering light of such lanterns, which can resemble signals or even Morse code. Additionally, the context—summer weekend night in a tourist area—supports the idea of outdoor celebrations. Although only one witness was recorded, the testimony is consistent with this type of event. The GEIPAN concluded that there were no unexplained elements in the case, attributing it to a typical observation of festive lights.
