🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On the morning of September 7, 2014, hundreds of people in southern France witnessed a bright celestial phenomenon. The event was so striking that it appeared in local media reports. The GEIPAN, France's organization for investigating UFO sightings, received multiple testimonies. After a detailed analysis, astronomers concluded it was the atmospheric entry of a meteoroid, a rocky body from space. The phenomenon occurred over Catalonia, following a steep trajectory of about 65 degrees, between 60 and 25 kilometers in altitude.
Although it might initially seem unusual, experts determined it had no connection to the asteroid 2014RC, which passed close to Earth the same day. The case has maximum consistency due to numerous testimonies and camera recordings. After evaluation, the GEIPAN classified it as level A, indicating no unexplained elements. In summary, it was a common astronomical event, but impressive for those who saw it.
