Summary

On October 4, 2014, a witness in Fontaines-sur-Saône observed a column of lights forming an S shape in the sky from their balcony. The phenomenon lasted about 10 minutes, with glowing orbs moving in a southeast direction. Although it might initially seem unusual, investigators concluded it was likely Thai lanterns released during a private celebration. Photos taken by the witness showed blurred shapes due to long exposure times, supporting this hypothesis. The light movement matched the direction of a light wind, confirming the explanation. The lights were estimated to be between 400 and 800 meters away, with a diameter of 40 to 60 cm. The GEIPAN classified this case as "A," identifying it as a Thai lantern observation.
