On December 25, 2014, between 01:20 and 01:29, a witness observed eight luminous points moving silently eastward toward Hyères in the Gironde sky. These objects had a reddish center and yellow edges, and their movement followed a consistent trajectory. Despite the festive night, no other testimonies were recorded. The observation of orange spheres moving across the sky in a few minutes strongly suggests the use of traditional Thai lanterns, likely released around Christmas. The wind direction recorded in Hyères also supports this explanation.
The GEIPAN classified this case as B, indicating a very probable observation of Thai lanterns. There are no signs of unexplained phenomena. The pattern of movement and the description align with what is expected from these traditional objects. While UFOs might come to mind first, the most reasonable explanation here points to a festive tradition involving glowing elements. The timing and behavior of the objects make this interpretation highly plausible.
