Summary

On January 4, 2015, a witness and his wife observed three fixed bright points in the sky from their car for five minutes. These points turned off one after another, sparking some curiosity. Given the context of New Year celebrations and the calm weather with a very light south wind, the GEIPAN concluded that these were likely Thai lanterns. These objects, typical of such events, tend to rise slowly and remain almost still. Although no other testimonies were received, the description fits what is common during these festivities.

The case was classified as "B," meaning there are no inexplicable elements and the most plausible explanation is the use of lanterns. This type of observation, while striking, often has a natural or cultural cause. In this case, the meteorological analysis supported the hypothesis that the wind was not strong enough to move the objects, reinforcing the idea of lanterns. The GEIPAN, in its investigative work, always seeks the most reasonable explanations before considering other possibilities.
