🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In February 2015, a driver and his passenger in Lille observed several silent orange lights moving across the sky. The case was recorded by the GEIPAN with a "C" classification, indicating insufficient information to confirm the nature of the objects. Initially, the phenomenon was suspected to be Thai lanterns, often released after private celebrations, but the witness rejected this explanation. The intermittent observation, due to the movement of the vehicle, complicated the precise reconstruction of the trajectories. Additionally, no other reports of similar phenomena were recorded in the area that night.
A light east wind could have influenced the objects' path, but it could not be verified with certainty. Despite the appearance resembling flying lanterns, the GEIPAN could not confirm this hypothesis due to the lack of additional data. The witness, who disagreed with the proposed explanation, maintained that what was observed was unusual. This case remains an unresolved mystery, with no other similar incidents reported in the region on that date.
