Summary

On April 18, 2015, a witness in Liacourt observed two luminous objects, white and red in color, moving in the night sky for two minutes. The objects flew one behind the other without making any noise and were reported to the gendarmeria via a letter. The investigation ruled out meteorological phenomena, fireworks, or military training. Although no other witnesses were found, the possibility of Thai lanterns released after a private party was considered. The movement of the objects aligned with the wind direction, but some details contradicted this explanation. For example, one object stopped above a marsh, and another moved rapidly in the opposite direction of the wind. These inconsistencies led to the consideration of perceptual errors, but the GEIPAN classified the case as likely caused by Thai lanterns.
